After he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2008, Marques Jones decided to make a major change in his life. He shifted his focus from climbing the corporate tech ladder to advocating for those with chronic diseases and disabilities.

He served as Chair of the Government Relations Advisory Committee in Virginia for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. As a representative of the Society and its members, he worked with legislators on all levels championing causes to improve the lives of people with chronic illnesses and disabilities. He also served as a regional team lead with the advocacy group Health Care for All Virginians, supporting the idea that all Virginia residents deserve access to quality health care.

Marques graduated from the Sorensen Institute for Political Leadership’s Candidate Training Program in 2016 and the Political Leaders Program in 2018. He’s a past-chair of the Henrico County Democratic Committee, Member of the 7th Congressional District Democratic Committee, and Democratic Party of Virginia Central Committee.

In 2016, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe named Marques to Virginia’s Assistive Technology Loan Fund Authority; he was re-appointed by Governor Ralph Northam in 2020.

Marques is a graduate of Marshall University, a small business owner, and co-hosts the “We Hate Politics” podcast. He lives in Henrico County with his wife, Jessica, and their daughters K’Leigh, Zoey, and Ainsley, and Theo, their dog.  An avid sports fan, Marques spends Saturdays in the fall rooting for his beloved Marshall University Thundering Herd.
