4. 13. 08 | Richmond, VA On Sunday, April 13, 2008, the Henrico County Democratic Committee hosted its annual “Turning Virginia Blue” fundraising event at the Holiday Inn Central on North Boulevard in Richmond. Keynote speaker for the event was the Honorable Brian Moran, leader of the House Democratic Caucus of the Virginia General Assembly. Prior to introducing Delegate Moran, HCDC Chairman David Kovacs welcomed everyone and announced that in the spring’s primary elections, Henrico County had the SECOND HIGHEST NUMBER of Democratic voters turning out in the state of Virginia. Democrats are on the rise and gaining strength in Henrico, so let the rest of the Commonwealth watch us as we get bluer and bluer!!
Following dinner and Delegate Moran’s speech, the Committee held a silent auction, hosted by the genial and ever popular John Montgomery, Vice Chairman of the Henrico County School Board. Montgomery’s well honed sense of humor made the auction quite enjoyable, and the crowd roared when treated to an in line skating exhibition by Delegate Joe Morrissey, who purchased the skates as part of the auction.
Other public officials attending and participating included State Senator Donald McEachin, Fairfield Representative of the Henrico County School Board Lamont Bagby, and Democratic Congressional Candidate for the 7th District Anita Hartke, chairwoman of the Culpepper County Democratic Committee.
The Democratic community in Henrico County is alive and well, and the Henrico County Democratic Committee is thriving and growing. If you’re reading this and aren’t a member, come join us and be a part of the continuing movement toward Turning Virginia Blue! (Or perhaps we should say KEEPING Virginia Blue……)
